Jnanamitra is a member of the Western Buddhist Order and past Chair of the Ipswich Buddhist Centre. She has pioneered Buddhism and meditation classes in Ipswich since 1992 and was a prime mover for creating the Ipswich Buddhist Centre in 2000. She was inspired to become a Buddhist by religious experiences in meditation which she had undertaken for health reasons. She converted to Buddhism in 1980. Jnanamitra has a passion for social change and constructive social activism and has an ambition to found a residential religious community in Suffolk based on co-housing principles. She has worked as a part-time development worker for people who use Social Care and Health Services and has been a Buddhist Tutor for Suffolk Inter-Faith Resource for many years.
